We transformed this small, overgrown plot in Oxford into a low maintenance garden with inviting dining and lounging areas and ample space for children's play.
Originally the garden was divided into two very small areas by an abundance of overgrown shrubs. It felt overwhelming and unwelcoming.
The new design is clean and contemporary. For the dining area we were able to clean up and repurpose existing slabs, while new porcelain paths in a lighter grey are interspersed with gravel to add interest and softness. The colour palette of the planting picks up on the neighbour’s tree which serves to link the two spaces, making the garden feel wider.
The strong, straight lines that run throughout the garden echo the squares of the Crittall-style doors and windows. The paving that’s laid immediately outside the kitchen was carefully chosen to match the flooring of the interior.
The lounging area at the far end of the garden is starting to feel cosier and more enclosed as the planting gets established.
